I know very little about foreign coins and need a little help. I've had this coin for some time but just recently noticed the die crack from the D on the obverse through the date and into the Cs. Is this a more collectible coin because of this? I hope it's not a stupid question. Thanks for any information.

Definitely not a stupid question. It looks to me like your coin has a flan crack as opposed to a die crack. When a coin is struck with a cracked die, the coin will have a raised line of metal. I don't think that a flan crack would enhance the value of this coin, but others here on CCF may offer more knowledgeable opinions.

Hello babybird,

Its an interesting coin to have, it appears like it has a minor lamination problem on the top right of the coin, probably caused by wrong composition of metal in the blank of the coin.I have a British Halfcrown similar to that Danish Krone.

I am unsure if this adds a certain value to the coin, but absolutely its a nice piece to own.

I hope someone with a better knowledge on those will explain the situation more proper.

Hi from Scandinavia!

Honestly, this looks like post mint damage to me. As Spence is saying, if it was a die crack, you'd have more metal instead of less.

This coin is made of aluminium-bronze, about 2.7 million have been struck (only 1925 had more), so it's not rare. The damage doesn't add value, but probably takes a bit of it.

I checked the websites around here (Danish and Norwegian), but this kind of coin isn't even listed, which means that it's most likely not a coin worth listing, which means that you can count on the value not being high, at best a few dollar. I know that I got my copy of this type (a 1925 on XF condition) from a local junk bin, if I remember it well. Paid about $1.08 for it, I think.

Thank you for the information UltraRant but I definitely don't see it being post mint damage because it has a crack from the rim of the coin to almost the middle of the coin. I'm definitely not an expert just my opinion and according to the sites I checked the coin was worth a little money but if this is where you are from then you would know. Thx again for the information.
