I got this coin at a dollar store for a decent price and I wanted an extra opinion on the grade of this coin, and maybe could you tell if its a Counterfeit? I already performed a magnet, sound, and weight test and everything checks out.

The fabric looks like a fake. I also see a random lump on the right side of the you in UNITED. Plus I see toolmarks under the curved base of the neck.

I say counterfeit.

Why do you think it is fake?

The only 1895-S with the left upright of the left base of the 1 close over the center of a denticle is VAM-1. The reverse die pairing for VAM-1 is type C3a, but the eagle's lowest right wing feather on your coin does not match C3 reverse diagnostics - it is not squared off nor raised. That alone is pretty conclusive. The weak and separated leaves on the left wreath branches are not found on any known 1895-S reverse die, being more commonly associated with heavy die re-polishing, something that was not seen on the very low mintage 1895-S.

The other 4 known die pairs, VAM 2 through VAM 5, all have easily recognizable distinct mint mark PUP's such as OMM's and axial tilts.

Otherwise, the entire appearance is wrong, from strike, to texture, to reeding (look at that pitted, cast roughness under the reeding!) to style and thickness of the letters, but most telling is the atrocity that has been committed upon the poor eagle's right inner wing feathers, which appear to have been gouged into the die with quite a great deal of force at the breast-wing junction, resulting in much more relief than expected.

If you paid a price that is reasonable for a real specimen (say, $3k-$10k range) you should send it for TPG certification if you are still convinced the coin is genuine.
