How much squash could a Sasquatch squash if a Sasquatch would squash squash?

Does not look burned to me,looks like environmental damage to me. Maybe a metal detector find.

Just plain old dark toning. It's impossible to tell you where this coin received the toning, although a metal detector find is very possible since the clad coinage is often found looking exactly like this one.

When cladding is missing from the larger coins, the thickness is reduced and the strike is weaker:

The strike on your coin is normal. It was found outdoors that altered the color. Sometimes even the simplest things alters coins. Storing them in paper envelope will alter the color in time. Some albums will alter color. Sulfur in the air will tone coins yellow. Heat can alter coins. Just a normal half dollar that is dark.

Some will carry them in their pocket to not the higher devices turn back to silver color and the fields will stay dark.
