I'm assuming you've been to all the usual sites looking for a match & didn't find one. I'm open to seeing this based on the oversized letters, but what's the deal with the diagonal ends of the E and the T? Are these common indicators of doubled dies? Seems like that could happen just in circulation.

I'm really out of my depth on these so the questions aren't nit-picking, I simply don't know.

You can tell it is a 1973 by just seeing the 'E'. That was the design that year.

Of the 3 major sites, there is only one DDO listed. This one is not it.

Thanks!

Yep, that is the regular design for that date

Ok, so that's the E slant that Pete pointed out; what about the T? In Coops photo, the E shows the slanted top but the T not so much. From Coop's previous teachings we can tell that today's 1973 is a fairly late die state, right?

What I'm leading up to is the Y in the OP photo looking much enlarged over the standard design of the year. Is that evidence that this particular strike came from an obverse die that had some degree of doubling?

When I go through all of the named, recognized DDOs over the years it seems to me that many of them are defined by enlargements of the devices, particularly LIBERTY or the motto. Many don't have the completely separate set of letters or lines that we all want to see. They are just BIGGER. [sorry for shouting].

This is just something that's been simmering in the back of my mind, and today's 1973 candidate made me want to articulate that. Not sure if I've succeeded or no.
