Im trying to figure out what would be a good 2017 dated foreign silver bullion coin to use as a pocket piece. Each time my sister has a kid I like getting a silver coin that I like giving a antique finish to either in my pocket or just letting it sit unprotected, and eventually pass down to them.
My first nephew is due this month so I'm trying to think of what one I should get. It needs to be 1 ounce, 2017, and not have much of a premium over silver prices. American eagles are out because his sisters is a 2015 one. I been debating on Britania, Kangeroos, kookaburras, maple leaf, or a libertad but is there anything else I should think of?

Chinese pandas or Somali elephants come to mind. Does it have to be a coin? Silver rounds can often be found without high premiums but not all of them have dates.

Brittania or Libertad. Very regal and majestic pieces.

Yeah has to be a coin and dated. My grandfather did it for all his kids and grandkids with silver dollars. It means a little more I think if its their birthyear and "real currency" I just abuse them a bit to get the old look that I been carrying this around since the day you were born for goodluck. Though eventuslly I will have to swap them out or display them since my sister plans on having six kids.

Kookaburras tone nicely. But I would go for a Peace dollar, or maybe even a Morgan, maybe a Walking Liberty half-dollar or a Kennedy half-dollar. Why? Because they contain more copper so they will tone faster, and they are worth less than a pure ounce of silver. One time I carried around a penny (1999 Canadian) for maybe 6 months in my jacket, until I lost it and I was sad about it. It was beginning to tone, too. Make sure this coin is expendable.

Walking Liberty half in a lower grade Being in a lower grade, you need not worry about it being bashed about in your pocket. A beautiful design that may appeal to someone who knows nothing about coins. You never know, you may be able attract a beginner to the hobby of coin collecting with such a coin !

I would go for a Britannia. The reverse on them is stunning and I would love to see what a circulated one would look like.

I will prob go with a UK bullion I love the reverse. I have alot of personal connections to Mexico and Canada but I dont really like the design changes for the libertad and the queens potrait is kinda depressing.
Im not a fan of the queens potrait but I guess her crowned is better then the canadian version that makes her look like just a normal grandmother. I used to like libertads but I dont really like the reverse with the evolution of the seal and the newer front.
The only other one I thought about was the armanian noah ark. I was worried it wouldnt wear well with the low relief.

I say pop for something substantial Uncle Bertensgrad. Get a 5 oz. ASE. You'll know when that's in your pocket. No risk of accidentally spending it. You might need a sewing kit however to stitch up your pocket from time to time.

I'm assuming you meant ATB Quarter? If so, that's a neat idea as well. You even get to pick your design.

Does your family or heritage include any non-U.S. country?
If so, that would be a great pick with a story.
