This coin is an example of PSD...but not PMD...this Arkansas quarter came straight from a mint bag when the Arkansas first came out...a professional informed me it was not a mint error however...but something happened to it at the mint after the striking process...your guess as good as mine....

PSD. It didn't look like that after the strike. Still a damaged coin. It might have been damaged in a counting machine. No premium for this though.

Yes PSD...but not PMD...no counting machine did that..it came straight out of a mint bag...besides a Coin Wrapping Machine couldn't do that...I ran the machines for 5 yrs...as I said...something happened to it at the mint after the striking process.

If it happened at the mint it would be PSD. If it happened after it left the mint it would be PMD.

No...PSD is after the striking process....but this is not PMD because something happened to it at the mint before it went into the mint bag...just didn't happen during the striking process apparently..as I said..lol

Personally, I give no consideration to Mint-caused damage because it is impossible to prove that the damage occurred inside or outside of a mint building in almost all cases. The only exception I have ever seen is quite obvious- crimp marks on a sealed Mint Set coin caused by the mylar thermal sealer.

No offense to anyone...but I really posted this just to show the difference between PSD and PMD...I didn't think it had any value or significance...it's just an example...and I certainly know it was caused at the mint because I witnessed this coin pour out of a bulk mint bag....which is a huge nylon bag packed with new minted coins...you have to lift the bag with a forklift...snip a ziptie on the underneath to let down a spout for the coin to pour into a metal bin

I appreciate your effort, but both terms have the same meaning. PSD stands for Post Strike Damage, and PMD stands for Post Mint Damage but means post minted damage. The name PMD is so misleading it was necessary to create the newer term PSD.
Only worthless damage occurs after the strike - regardless of at the mint or not. Better luck on the next one.

Better luck on what next one?...You lost me...I never said it was worth anything...and that's your opinion of the term..I have mine..don't judge me because I don't have many posts and you think I have no knowledge of the minting process or error coins...once again..no offense...but I don't care if you have 1 million posts and your the mayor of the coin community..lol..

Is the mint still using bags? I thought bags were discontinued.

They went to the pallet system in 2001. So no they are sent to the distribution centers to be rolled there and sent out to the locations already rolled. So this could not be from a bag that was sealed by the mint. They didn't use them in 2003.
