Quote: I just got a Mint e-mail saying a select few of the COA's on the colorized coins will be signed and numbered by the Mint director. Do you think this will add value? Absolutely, but for maximum value, you'll need to send the unopened shipping box directly to a TPG. So, you won't know if you have struck gold until you get it back from the TPG. Even if you don't do that, though, the signed COA will bring a premium. The mint also did this on last year's ERP S ASE. While there was ZERO chance of that product not selling out, it is a decent marketing gimmick to boost sales.

Here's how NGC is slabbing the "Enhanced" Basketball Half Dollars from the Kid's Set. Perhaps one day NGC will add this "SP"-graded coin to its modern commemorative half dollar registry.

Wow, these prices have pushed me out of the modern commemoratives. $150 for the two colored basketball, and $133 for the two Women's Suffrage is a huge amount of money.

Not sure whether to order these colorized versions or not. I agree with you MarkCoin. I don't want the US Mint to become the RCM (which I fear they may already have become). That said I have FOMO regarding these colorized coins. I guess I have till 12 to figure it out. I did but the kids set earlier in the year and have to say I am not impressed with the coin at all. The packaging is cool, but I collect the coins, not the packaging.

Had no problem ordering one clad half and one silver dollar this morning. Hated to spend so much but since it's the first colored.... With high silver prices I wonder how well the dollars will sell. My brother is retired HS basketball coach who won four state championships, he's ordering a couple too.

The Royal Canadian Mint ( RCM) is known (along with several other world mints) for what some consider gimmicky coins & products such as colorized and glow-in-the-dark coins, to name a couple. Just take a spin around the RCM web site to see what they're offering for sale. Many US Mint collectors tend to be more conservative in their taste in coins and scoff at such offerings.

I only picked up the colorized silver dollar. I can't justify getting both.

The R.C.M. looks like a tourist gift shop kinda. That 1KG gold coin though (32.15 troy oz)

$95 seems rather pricey for a 1oz silver coin with an orange stripe.
