Does anyone else have one of these. I got one last year for the DD's and over dates and I love it.

I don't have one...but there are several board members who have microscopes. I'm sure some will be along pretty quick to share with you. There's no doubt that some magnification really helps you see your coins in a new way!

Very nice dime! The Barbers are one design where AU-MS coins are just special. Nice photos. How much can you regulate the lighting? The center of the coin is so brightly lit that it loses some detail, though the edges appear to be correctly exposed.

The lighting control is almost infinite. Its on a slide along with contrast, brightness, gamma and about 7 or so other fields. The view is on the monitor of your computer and the image can be manipulated live. It was made for the medical field. It has video capability with time lapse. It can be hand-held or slid into a holder on a goose neck with a nice weighted base for still shots. The light is provided by a ring of LEDs around the lens. My girlfriend likes to use it to look in my ears. I try to tell her its not for that but she doesn't seem to care. a couple pics of it... I just picked on of those up this weekend. Haven't had much time to play with it yet... but so far I'm incredibly happy with it. How do you like the gooseneck holder? I opted for the table top stand myself.

I have a Digital Blue QX-5 (a toy microscope for kids) and it does a pretty good job of close up pictures but you would never be able to take a picture of the whole coin with it

Hi. I have a Micro Science digital Microscope (for children), no you can't see the whole coin, just the areas of interest. But next week I will be purchasing a Stero Microscope for closer coin inspection and better digital pictures. I'm using my (tax check), this ought to help jump-start the economy. Patc

BigT - That cam is only 1.2 Megapixels, seems pretty weak to me.

The fact that it is only 1.2 mega pixel is not such a big deal as the magnification factor. I want to be able to see VAMs and 'Type' coins easier.

Hi there, acidic1 What a coincidence! Just been making enquiries after one of these and thought I'd best check here first before taking plunge. And if your pics are any indication, then I'll be getting one pretty soon. Now... another hobby of mine is video/editing in general. That said, my room has side-by-side monitors, a video switcher thingo, stuff for changing analog to digital, blah, blah, blah and so forth. So, for some time now have been using video camera for taking coin pics, then copy into editing program while fiddling with light source on the run, so to speak. Okay... next I scan time-line for what seems best group of frames, then use frame-grabber to snatch prefer-ed image, which is saved in 'My Pictures' folder... are we still awake? Or have I sent you all to ZZzz z-land by now? Sorry if I have! So next thing is paste image into my website and Bob's your uncle(?). Phew! Well, most of my images are okay - but not good - plus there's a bit of messing about involved, and when I stumbled on to this Dino thing I thought; "just what I need ... but is it any good?" And I think you've answered my question there, acidic1. And I did look at Digital blue QX-5 also, Bryan1315 - but unfortunately doesn't quite deliver. Anyway, now I'm off to buy one of these you-beaut gadgets, but only thing is... they're not all that cheap if you want top shelf; and bottom shelf (more my price range) doesn't offer lighting; that's the AM211 model - and so will get me the next one up which is the more pricey (by $50.00) AM311s; and might as well have the stand also, for another $39.00 - ah well, it's only money! Cheers, Les

It pretty much is, Bryan1315, but even more like; "everything turned out just fine as expected!" And funny how we say things for so long and just know what they mean without thinking and with no idea when it was first used - probably hundreds of years back; and more than likely 'Ye Olde English' speak... gawd only knows
