Quote: I wonder, will these new $1 coins make it to actual circulation outside the US ... Mintage will likely be too low for that to happen.

No date but they have said late Dec. As I pointed out in another thread they only need about one day to produce all the 2018 coins they would need for a NIFC coin using just one press at Denver and one at Philadelphia. And they only have to be struck this year, they can wait until next year to release them if need be.

Quote: Hopefully he chooses the obverse from the CFA and reverse from CCAC. Seconding on the CFA obverse (#12), which was my close second favorite among the original options. As for the reverses, my opinion on the CFA reverse was "awesome but won't work well on a coin", and my opinion on the CCAC reverse was "don't like it, but would probably work better on a coin".

These are on the US mints schedule for 2019 so looks like this program is a go. What I didn't see is the Introductory coin that was supposed to come out this year. Wonder if they're just going to skip it.

Program had to be a go because Congress authorized it. They still have plenty of time for the introductory coin this year. But they should make the final design decision soon.

I agree. There is plenty of 2018 left.

Has the mint ever announced a new release this late in the year?

Possibly the 1999 P Proof SBA, and of course the 1921 Peace dollar. We didn't ratify the Treaty of Versailles so we had to have our own peace treaty with Germany. That treaty ending WWI between the US and Germany was signed Nov 21st 1921. The call for desings went out I think on the 24th and the design was selected on Dec 12th. It think press releases went out on the 21st, due to criticisims design changes had to be made and production started Dec 28th. 1916 SLQ also came out in late December.

Wonder if the introductory coin will be released in a proof, rp and bu finish like the rest of them. Wish they'd hurry and announce this already. Really curious to see how these turn out....or at least the introductory one.

Probably just business strikes. If they do decide to do proofs they will need to come to a decision much sooner. While they can strike the business strike in just 2 days, proofs would require two to three weeks to strike.

Sigh. Another non-circulating dollar coin with a boring design. Who's idea was this anyway? Now I will feel obligated to get 1 or more examples just to have them, even though I don't really want it. And they actually mandated the date and mintmark on the edge. Grrr.
