So is the proof versión going to be released as just a single coin? Did they ever do that with any of the other presidential or Native American dollars? It's not an ASE so just seems a little weird.

It does seem a little weird, but the late in the year release is similar to the 1999 SBA dollars which were released a individual proofs.

The link below mentions the release of the 2018 introductory dollar coin on Dec. 14, but oddly the design apparently hasn't been chosen yet, or if it has, it hasn't been made public. The article states "It appears that the Treasury Secretary went with the CCAC's recommendations" but provides no proof of that.

The mint has uploaded the image of the coin on the product page. Still no proof pricing though.

They forgot "Liberty" on the obverse.

They didn't forget, at least the Mint didn't. The legislation doesn't require it (only "a design symbolic of Liberty") and none of the candidate designs included it.

It does look odd without it though. A lot of blank space in there.

Seems like the wording on the obverse should be moved up higher to make the blank space less obvious. The obverse has too much space and the reverse has too little.

Yea, the dumb $1 could easily have been replaced with the much nicer 'ONE DOLLAR' and there would have been plenty of room.

They want to keep it as $1 to keep it recognizable by the growing illiterate population.

Since the dollar coins seem to circulate more in other countries like Ecuador, maybe "$1" is more for those people whose native language is not English.
