Anyone have any thoughts on price and packaging for the individual proof? Inside a lens or capsuled w/ a box like an ASE? Either way seems a little odd for this particular coin.

Here's a 1999 proof SBA dollar in its original packaging: 372502153635 I expect this new one won't be all that different. I forget what it originally sold for. I'll guess $19.95 for this one, just to throw something out there.

They should have followed suit and filled out the obverse like they did with the SBA.

That's a little different because those came in a set and with different packaging. I'm thinking this new one will be packaged similarly to the SBA. I looked it up -- the 1999 SBA proof originally sold for $8.95. (I thought my $19.95 guess seemed high -- I was remembering the SBA selling for much closer to that.) So I'll revise my guess to $12.95, possibly as high as $14.95, mainly due to what I expect the packaging to be like.

My guess is $13.95. I don't think I'll be placing any orders with the Mint anytime soon.

I feel obliged to pick up the 2018 single specimen, but, like many others, I think my interest will peter out quickly. We need to let our NIFC-but-looks-like-it's-for-circulation coinage rest for a while.

Look at it this way, if you buy the proof and both uncs, you'll have a complete series (for a couple of weeks).

I don't understand how they don't have pricing for the individual proof. You think they're still trying to figure out how to package it?

Probably so. That would definitely affect the price.

We shall see. I might add one to my Apollo order in January.

Well, it's a good thing this wasn't on Guess the Price. I would have lost any chance of making the podium. I'm wondering how this is cheaper than the 1999 SBA proof was. Minimal packaging? More efficient process? Or coming from San Francisco where they do more of these non-circulating pieces than Philadelphia, where the SBA was minted?

Oddly enough, it could end up being a key to the series. The others will be sold with the regular and silver proof sets. My bet is that a good number of people won't realize that they're missing this coin until next year's proof sets come out. Great price!
