Quote: One problem with trying to get a good design for the 2018 reverse is the law pretty much spelled out what it would look like.
Quote: I've had my fill of long-term series, especially in metals with little intrinsic value, and double-especially with small dollars that don't circulate.
I have no affinity for "manganese brass" coins. I would prefer aluminum bronze in this case. The current dollar coin composition is completely substandard. They are tokens for all intents and purposes.
Quote: As long as there is edge lettering, I am not interested.
Important info, like mintmark, should not be on the edge, period. Date is subjective because design indicates date with these series. However, I would rather IGWT be moved to the edge over date/mm. I would also make "Liberty" a more important feature than IGWT or EPU.

Our dollar coins look similar to aluminum-bronze coins of the past, and I think the latter looks better, overall. If you have any decent amount of 20th-Century French coins, you have aluminum-bronze there, somewhere. It's a nice color and better than the current US dollar to me. I don't know why, exactly.

Quote: Wasn't the committee supposed to meet in October to finalize the design and set a date?
The Treasury Secretary makes the final decision and he hasn't chosen the design yet. He is supposed to be reviewing the designs right now, aided by recommendations made to him by the CCAC and CFA.
The image below shows the CCAC choice for the coin on the left and the CFA choice on the right.
Those are the choices of the CFA and the CCAC but the Sec Treas is NOT obligated to accept their recommendations He could pick one or the other, one design from each, choose from the other designs that weren't selected, reject all of them and call for new designs, or just decide to forego the introduction coin for this year.
