I looked at it as trying to inform anyone here that might have been thinking of spending $299 for a set they could get for under $190. But I can see how it might be interpreted as bragging so I will refrain from posting any further deals on coins I find...not a problem at all Oh, and three days ago there were 4800 sets left in Mint inventory...today there are 7260

I see no reason why you shouldn't do well with these sets, Fox. Man, you got them for a steal! I also got the impression that you were bragging, but I also know that this is just a way in which you enjoy the hobby- buying for a good price and selling for a profit later. Who doesn't like to make a profit, right? It's just not the driving force for some of us, and some of us couldn't care less.
To each his/her own, and this diversity makes the hobby great.

Quote: Oh, and three days ago there were 4800 sets left in Mint inventory...today there are 7260 The mint is still processing returns... I did return mine. I would have kept them, but since they just put them in a box without protection with the sets bouncing around I finally had enough of putting up with it and just sent them back. Compared to how the Perth Mint ships their coins (with free worldwide delivery above AUD400), the US Mint is not even second best. These will sell out eventually, but I very much doubt secondary market prices will be affected by it.

Quote: The real question is how many times is Foxwoods going to keep mentioning this amazing deal he bought on some certified set. It seems to me the man brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the table. If he repeats himself maybe that's a signal that people should pay attention. I have no envy issues, brag away.

I for one enjoy Foxwoods' posts and if he can inform me of a good deal, even better!

His collecting goals, passions and strategies may not align exactly with mine but that's the fun and education value of collecting and interacting with other collectors.

Mintage on these was 100K too high. Will be available for sale from the mint weeks from the date of first sale. Will not hold its value for years because tens of thousands of sets are sitting in dealer inventory. Perhaps the smart dealers are the ones returning sets. They (and a lot of other people) were likely hoping these would be like the first couple Pres. dollar C&C sets, but instead they turned out to be MOD sets, or pretty much any other US mint product. I get it that these are good looking coins, but buying from the mint is a lot like buying a new car. As soon as you drive it off the lot, it depreciates by 20%.

2012 S Pres Dollar PF set had a mintage of 249k+ and an issue price of $18.95...now $65-70 raw, $270-300 PF70
The 2012 silver pf set had a mintage of 395k+, issue price $67.95....now sells for $200+ raw
Just numbers for comparison with this EU set at 225k

But there are people who are casual collectors that buy proof sets every year and don't look to other series. The question is how will eventual demand of the EU sets compare to proof sets. I think there won't be as much demand, but that really depends on whether this is a one off or beginning of a series. You could make arguments for either boosting demand for the set. I think it's a definite good value at the $30 raw selling price. The fact that it's not quite sold out is evidence that the mint got the overall mintage right.

Read the last few posts in the "New ASE PF from San Fran" thread. How many collected Congratulations sets? Ummm...close to zero? ...interesting what happened there... No clue what will happen

Bret's point is spot on. There is a much larger base for collecting the annual proof sets, and 2012 prices are an anomaly because the mint shut down sales early. These Enhanced Uncirculated sets are not rare by any means at 225K minted. Three years after the release of the March of Dimes special proof set, the sets can be purchased for less than the issue price, and only 75K of those were produced. For prices on these special type issues to go up, a lot of new collectors have to come into the hobby and create a demand that outpaces the supply.

I will add that 70 graded sets sell for $170-200 but the raw sets are floundering

I never saw this as anything but being excited and telling his friends about it. I know when I get something good, I am excited to share, and CCF is the place where I have a lot of friends who will be legitimately excited with me rather than saying, "That's nice, can I get back to my TV show now?" I was enjoying his deals with him. If I had the cash right now and was looking for sets like this to flip later, his posts would inspire me to keep looking.

Thanks... Just in case ANYONE is interested, this company has consistently had decent prices for these sets... A few are going off in the next 3 hours and presently are only are at $130-ish (obviously they won't close there but it's a start) 225th 70 setsI take great pleasure in whacking a low ball bid to get what I want..

Just curious of return/exchange policy- my non-quarter set is flawless. My quarter set seems like the mounds quarter has some quality control issues. I wasn't going to think of exchanging bc I thought it would have sold out by time and I'm sure I'm past the return period, but does mint cover return shipping?
