Oh dear - current sales figure as of Aug27: 187,304 That's 23,969 less than last week and a total of 36,006 sets sold fewer than two weeks ago.
Nail in the coffin? I guess time will tell...

I guess it depends on how many of that number are left to be sold....
...that number minus the rejects. Could end up being a final number south of 225k

Hopefully the mint is learning their lesson about not setting an initial household limit and allowing returns for any reason.

Having ordered from the U.S. Mint since 1975, I'm very satisfied with all 4 @ 2017 EU & 2 @ 2017 Mint Sets. These are the **best struck non-proof** Coins I have received and the number of Sets minted is the least of my concerns. I'm sure a good percentage of Sets will be broken up and dispersed to Collector's individual needs and/or reside in 3rd Party Holder's. I will be the first to admit that the quality of Coins I have received in the 1970's and later Mint Sets we're fair to good at best, and honestly don't know how many Sets I have broken up to sell 1 or 2 Coins from the set to a Collector and spend the balance of the set. I have also given away coins from broken up sets to young Collector's just starting out. Other than Commemorative Coins ordered to make Pendants for my late daughter , the last Sets I purchased prior to the 2017's were 4 Mint & Proof Sets in 2009, and the 2017's are IMO better Struck (maybe they increased the Die Pressure Tonnage, idk). I will make this my last post on how much I like the quality of each Coins Strike in these sets, but when one is used to purchasing Mint Set that looks no better than the Coins entering circulation at the time of issue, then not familiar with what a Enhanced Uncirculated looks like if you never purchased one, I was blown away when I first opened up each set. to the U.S. Mint on this one

I find it very interesting that there is a good chance the mintage will be a good amount less than 225,000.

Since it appears that most of the returns are not quality related, I'd expect that they'll be sold.

Dealers probably realized this set was a bust and are scrambling to bail out. Every collector that wants a set will have had the chance to buy one so no secondary market demand. I predict no sell out, these coins won't ever be considered even semi-key date, and 30 years from now will sell for $50-60 max. I hope there is some accountability at the mint, but it is govt so not likely. Too bad they couldn't have made the mintage $75k with a HH limit of 1 for the first week, and then opened sales for what remained.

1) it WILL sell out 2) re: won't ever be considered a semi-key date.. Maybe I missed it but what Lincoln Cent would have a lower mintage than the one from this set? ..and the Kennedy half ain't too shabby either
