What do you think? The coin is not mine.

Sorry if this is the second time I posted this, I tried posting it this morning, but when I came back to check my replies, I couldn't find it.

Looks fake to me. But it's not like I've handled lots of them.

Looks fake to me, too. The fake patina/toning is starting to delaminate on Ms Liberty's neck and shows the underlying metal. I suspect it has Chinese origins.

Hair and date look wrong. Plus looks like a casting.

I am far from an expert but I do have several 1794 large cents so I compared this one to mine. At first I was seeing it as having different lettering and maybe fake but then I saw a couple of mine that seemed to match up nicely so my guess is that it is original. This is what I love about old copper - it's almost like each one is different. I think I may learn something from this thread.

My copper begins at 1798 so I'm looking forward to what everyone else has to offer.

Always suspicious of these early USA coins in higher grade ... alas the counterfeits have gotten much better.

I'm not an expert in this series .... so I reserve my comments to the concern noted above.

No expert here, but the "bubbly" appearance on the neck and beside the hair screams "Casted fake" to me.

Should I post it in the ebay counterfeit reporting thread?

You can always post it in the counterfeit forum and let Bobby take care of it - if there is ample time left on the auction.

A look at the four head types of 1794 (1793, 1794, 1795, 1795 exact) will quickly show you why this coin cannot be authentic, even if the "square ear" didn't stick out like a sore thumb.

1794 head of 94 S-43 I don't see anything outright in the pictures that would cause me to condemn it.
