Hi All :)
Today received this beautiful coin by mail, I think it's authentic, weight is 5.05 grams, but appears to be very scarce date with "S" letter So any opinion on authenticity will be helpful. There seems to be a slight lack of the top of the neck as shown in the pictures and "S" is very close to "E" in FIVE. I carefully checked the letter "S" under the magnifying glass and certainly the coin is struck as is with letter "S".Thank you.

Looks authentic , the only thing that questions me is the S MM looks closer to the E instead of the C . As I'm not sure if there are variable locations for Buffalo mint marks .
I'm stating this from a sharp photo of a Buff from the early 20's with an S mint .
Any way this Nickel shows a little wear , real nice horn and a not so common nice tail . Date & mint fairly sharp .

Rather a expensive coin. And since your in a different country from here, must have cost you a lot in just postage and insurance. Looks real to me. 1,550,000 minted. Considered a rather key dated coin. I wouldn't even dare to ask how much you paid for that coin but whatever you did, you got a great coin. Note the full horn. Great looking coin. Wish it was mine.

The curvature of the S and the serifs don't seem to match the other 1921 S nickels I looked at. There are at least two mintmarks positions other than the one this coin has. I haven't located a known genune coin with that position, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I've only looked at a few examples. Sample size is too small.

Thank you for your opinions. From 50-60 nickels 1921-S checked just in ebay I managed to find only 2 pieces with the same position of "S" and with a thick "five cents", maybe from the same die:

You have a very nice coin sir! In that condition (at least AU55), your nickel deserves a top tier slab and a BIG price tag! Well done!

I have my concerns about the authenticity of the coin. The area of concern is circled below.

Scarce-Buffalo-Nickel---Authentic?

The variegation of reflected light seems to suggest deformation/reformation of the metal where the mint-mark should be.

Position of the S looks good, but the shape of the S is different between the two ebay coins and the OP coin. Not the curvature of the bottom of the S and the serifs.

I agree with Smauggie- I noted the odd shape of the mint mark and it does look like the metal around the mint mark may have been tampered with. I would get it authenticated and slabbed by PCGS or NGC.

Yes, "S" is different maybe, but I don't see deformation around mintmark, this is just photo-effect. It looks normal surface under the magnifying glass. This I another picture:

(Today, it was sent to a PCGS dealer.)

Looking forward to the outcome. If it is authentic it is a great looking coin IMHO!
