JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21643 Posts	Posted 09/10/2017 5:21 pm I don't think I can agree with the worn ML theory. The dot and ML appear in a different position so a worn ML would not create the dot. To me it appears more of a die chip or deteriorated die although I'm not certain. Report this Post to the Staff

I've always had trouble believing the die chip/deterioration theory, since the dot appears in almost exactly the same position on the 1947 25 cent and dollar, and only 11 years earlier the mint deliberately put dots on some 1936 (actually 1937) 1, 10 and 25 cent coins under similar circumstances (waiting on updated dies from England but high demand for coins). The counter argument is that there are lots of dots on Canadian coins, and these became recognized merely because they are in the same position as the 1947 maple leaf.
