Could be a deal (if not fake). What is the weight, diameter, and thickness? I assume you already confirmed that a magnet won't stick to it, right?

If it's real it is a great buy at melt price and would benefit from a quick dip to get rid of that nasty toning, since the bones look AU underneath the nastiness.

I'm sure it must be OK, but somehow the 4 in the date doesn't look right.

I would respectfully disagree with that thought, if only because it's one in a thousand that one could dip a circulated coin and achieve something not looking too "clean" for the grade. There has to be underlying luster to justify such a step, and it's possible you wouldn't know if that luster were present until afterward.

So, as a generality (understanding "generality" can't really apply here ), I won't advise dipping any coin which has circulated. Dipping is always a risk, and dipping a circulated coin is a risk beyond prudent reason.

I agree, Dave, but when you are dealing with a coin that is worth little more than bullion, a 50/50 for 5 seconds often works to improve eye appeal. I would never recommend this approach for silver coins with any significant numismatic premium over melt.

Fair enough. With that qualification, I'll concede the point.
