Again, not a Doubled Die. Maybe MD or Die Deterioration Doubling. You should check out Crazyb0's book Iding for dummies. It will help you dushtingish between real hub doubling and other forms of doubling
Errers and Varietys.

Centavo, a good question! What you see as "notches" aren't a doubled event. It is actually a product of Die Deterioration. As the metal continues on its outward movement these devices are beginning to split, being stretched. If it were a doubling it would appear at the corners anyway. There is other indications of deterioration, see how the date and mintmark have the angled sides? There it is. Note also the L B E of LIBERTY, across their bottom bars are many nicks!

Take a look at Wexler's site. When you look at the DDO's there, note the devices on LIBERTY are wider than a normal coin. http://doubleddie.com/2318537.htmlGetting to know what a DDO looks like on these will have you find them easier. So study the whole section on the Shelds cents. You will remember how the devices are affected and be able to seek what you are trying to find.

The negative/inverted color images tell us more of the story. Note them again. You can see that the coin has a lot of MD on the devices. The LIBERTY also has a lot of MD issue. This may have caused the issue with the markings you are pointing to with the black lines on an earlier picture.
