Nice! How'd you manage that one? I thought you hit a dead end with NGC after the call with the lady from customer service.
I have no idea what they were thinking, a blind bat can see this coin deserves a straight grade; lord knows they've straight graded FAR worse material.

MikeF - The coin you have is very nice but it can't hold a candle to this all original coin with natural surfaces that NGC straight graded.. http://goccf.com/t/307333

Quote: How'd you manage that one? Persistence backed up with evidence pays off. I will be in touch with the higher-ups tomorrow and see where it goes. I honestly believe the one or two US coin graders that viewed this coin were intimidated by it's beauty. The 'It's too good to be true' mentality. The first coin grader tells the second, no way this toing is original. Persuaded by suggestion, the second confirms to move on to the next coin. A quick $25 made 3 minutes.

OK but a cleaning holder? What happened to "questionable toning"?
It'd be good if you shared the exact approach you took for the benefit of others as well. I personally never had any issues with NGC but that doesn't mean I won't one day. Perhaps on that day I can follow the steps you took and have a chance of speaking to someone that actually can make something happen.
Did you just keep calling and keep asking to speak with a manager? Who'd you ultimately speak with that said they'll re-evaluate the coin?

The owner of the shop had several of his obviously AT'ed coins come back as cleaned as well. Maybe this is a new trend. I called back today and spoke with another rep and pleaded my case. I got the contact info to the higher ups via linkedin.

Quote: Did they ever figure out what the heck was in that briefcase? When asked what was in the briefcase, Tarantino announced that "It's whatever the viewer wants it to be" It will be interesting to see what NGC has to say about your coin this time around. I spoke with a friend who knows this series regarding your coin, and his response was "It is generally accepted that Bust halves are more commonly messed with and cleaned than (say) Franklins, so a moderately cleaned Bust half might get slabbed (and quietly net graded down, possibly) while Frankie comes back in a body bag." Honestly, I was more concerned about questionable color considering both NGC and PCGS have really tightened up with the rash of AT'd coins recently. If NGC nukes it again, and it's gonna be tough to get them to admit that at least 2 graders got it wrong, in my humble opinion she deserves an evaluation by PCGS....perhaps this time with a group of coins that have not been obviously messed with.

Quote: wonder what you will all say when PCGS agrees and it comes back details? It will depend why. If they call it cleaned then yes it probably is and there's something the photos aren't showing. If they details it for the color then it really just needs to be held for a bit and tried again as that would be them being overly cautious with color at the moment. Quote: @Baseball, I tried your suggestion in Virginia but I spoke with some dingbat lady that sputtered out sentence fragments that were mostly composed of the word uhm. She sounded like she didn't want any part of it.
I'm not sure who that is that picked up the phone. I just know they have the discounted rates and they generally just carry high end material so your coin should be in good company in a submission instead of getting hoses having it put in with a bunch of details coins like last time. Quote:When I called their customer service line, I asked some very pointed questions that the lady was very well prepared for. I asked how many graders review each coin. Her response was 'usually 3-4 graders'. I asked her if they outsource their grading or do all graders work in-house. She said in-house. I then asked how many graders work for NGC. Here response was 30-40 between US and World issues. So then why does NGC only have 21 employees including executives listed on LinkedIn? https://www.linkedin.com/company/nu...corporation/And of those 21 employees, why are there only 8 total graders of various specialties? So let's say 25% of their graders don't have a Linkedin profile. That brings the total amount of graders they employ to 10. They're a private company so none of their information has to be released, but her information was likely about right. Those numbers put them at about the same number PCGS has and you would expect both companies to be similar in size. As far as linkd in I wouldn't put anything into that. It's up to the person if they want to be identified like that and most of the graders wouldn't be hired that way if they wanted to change jobs, they would just call the other TPG directly and get hired or not. I would be shocked if they had under 25 graders. PCGS had 33ish I believe on their last finacials report and both have offices in the US, Europe, China, Asia and are considering more. Both do a lot of bulk work and bulk modern work which are their own sets of graders, the guys making well into six figures grading aren't wasting time on ASE boxes, and both do substantial foreign work ect.
