Quote:MikeF, Did you have any luck with the TPG? No, I wanted to view it again in hand first. Just got it back today. I haven't seen the coin in 3 months thanks to the dip stick dealer. Thanks for the contact info, bro! I'll deal with NGC on Monday. If anyone can point out any evidence of cleaning, please chime in.

I agree, I am not seeing anything to make it a details. This is another reason why I am holding off on sending in the questionable 1854 O Half.

I see no evidence of cleaning at all.

The toning on the coin may be a result of a cleaning.
An inspection by PCGS is warranted. If they give the coin a Details grade, then it has most likely been cleaned. If not, then most likely NGC was in error.

Another reason as to buy the coin, not the holder.

Silver dollar: You are quickly gaining a reputation of being the master of the obvious. And repeating it multiple times per thread. Strive for quality, not quantity in your posts. My question was with the new zoomed in pics, do you see any evidence of cleaning?

I personally don't think it warrants a details cleaned or AT holder.

I hope you get this resolved Mike.
I am no expert on this series however like others I see no reason at all for a details grade. It's a stunning coin!

I wonder how fast NGC will process this coin through their system?

Quote: I wonder how fast NGC will process this coin through their system? There's no hurry. I haven't sent it back in yet, not even sure if I will but thanks for bumping this post back up. I was going to share an example of TPG arrogance that my friend Greg experienced on the seated forums. I asked him for an update on a 71 sld he purchased awhile ago. It was graded ms-61 when he purchased it from Great Collections but clearly looked like a 58. After nearly a year of back and forth with PCGS he finally gave us an update. @Baseball you in particular might find it very interesting. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/sea...t-t5601.html @admins, I hope it's ok to link to another forum. I asked for permission but never heard back. I think everyone here can learn something from this.

I have to say that at the moment I am a little skeptical of the details of the story from his reaction when someone had asked to see full slab shots of it in both holders. I'm not sure why he was unwilling to do that. On the other hand though, I am not at all surprised things are downgrading right now with how conservative grading went around the new year. It almost seems like someone convinced the TPGs that people wanted ultra conservative grading and they decided to experiment with it.
