Congrats! I've found that the coins that I've been concerned about paying up for have become my favorites and the buyer's remorse fades quick.

Go with PCGS. If/when you decide to sell you'd regret not using them especially with an amazing coin like that.

Agree this is a coin to cherish, whatever the final grade. You will never regret buying this, even if it remains in an AU holder.

Quote: Fellow members have warned against sending CBH's to PCGS. It's my understanding that after years of overgrading PCGS has tightened their standards and overcorrected the issue. You won't regret the PCGS certification, even if they are tough and undergrade this one. If you are planning on having it sent to cac after the regrading (which I strongly encourage), and JA sees it as undergraded, you might be in line for a gold sticker. Regardless of the color, in today's market the sticker adds a premium. As a side note, having the coin in PCGS plastic also opens her up to the registry set collectors to pursue when the time comes.

Mike, I think you made the right decision in cracking it out. Any chance you can post up-close pics of the coin, I'd like to get a better look at her surfaces and see if they are as flawless as they appear on the pics on the heritage site Both coins are properly graded. The second 32 has extensive wear far worse than yours and exhibits many visible scuffs and bag marks. To be honest I think it is over graded at AU58, and probably the only reason it got that grade was because of amazing eye appeal caused by it's beautiful iridescent toning. As for grading, I've always preferred NGC (and I like their holders better) though I must concede I feel like PCGS coins, especially US, sell for stronger prices. As for how you go about it, can you not submit through some dealer? Plenty of dealers offer submission assistance for marginal costs which will be partly or mostly offset by lower fees to you as they get higher discounts due to volume.

No. Going through a dealer out here is too risky or expensive. The jewelry store with the coin department said they charge $30 per submission in addition to grading fees. The only other LCS is in Independence and to be honest I would never submit through them because the grumpy demeanor of the owner leads me to believe that he could close his doors any day. I have 7 high end coins that need to be graded. That's too much risk.

Wow, that is a beauty. Don't worry about the money, 100 years from now it won't matter much!
Congratulations.

If you're an ANA member you can submit directly to NGC yourself. If you're not, it costs little to join, it's for a good cause, and then you're set - all submission forms can be printed easily.

Yeah that's something I'm considering. Still haven't made a decision. What's funny is I have already received 2 anonymous offers from Heritage users to buy this coin.

I would listen to basebal21 on this. His advice regarding the TPGs is usually spot on imo. I think PCGS is the best course and then CAC to maximize value and resale opportunities.

Quote: What's funny is I have already received 2 anonymous offers from Heritage users to buy this coin. I'm not surprised. That is a gorgeous piece and is currently undervalued by not being in the right plastic (or no plastic at all). This coin will eventually find it's way to PCGS and cac, it's too nice not to. A very good buy on a very nice coin!

I also vote for PCGS. Although I believe that NGC is more of a technical grader, this coin might benefit from PCGS (a little more of a market grader imo) and receive a small market grade bump. This beauty has marketability written all over it.

Update: So after some delay, my dealer ended up taking this coin with him to the fun show. A few specialists viewed it and said it was an ms coin that should come back as 64. 63 on a bad day. One of them offered to buy it for 64 money on the spot. So we decided to submit to NGC. Should have the results back in 3 weeks.
