1974 Silver Kennedy Half? - Coin Community Forum

BillbertGilbert New Member United States 20 Posts	Posted 01/01/2018 12:38 pm Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well in the new year. I've come across an odd 1974 Kennedy half and can't seem to figure out whats going on with it. I've attached a pics, and my best guess is that its missing a layer or was struck on a silver planchette. It's 11.17g & the same size as any other one, but not normal. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/01/2018 12:45 pm To me it looks like the coin was poor plated. On the inside of reeds you might see some copper showing through on them: I used a blade to cut through the plating an a quarter to show the copper under the plating. Quarters are often the target for gold and platinum plating, sold on HSN. The plating voids any premium for these coins. Report this Post to the Staff
