Tangentially related, I stumbled onto this ebay listing for reverse proof Kennedy half dollars, one with an S mint mark, and one with a "W". I didn't know there would be a "W" issue -- where did that come from?

Of course, thank you for that. It's late and I wasn't paying that much attention (I even have one of those). The graphic similarity of the labels threw me off.

Both were for a 50th anniversary, just not the same 50th anniversary.

With holidays approaching (*shudder*), this set could/should sell out easily this year, though I hope it does not.

Just curious....Why do you hope it doesn't sell out?

For those interested, the mint director signed a COA for one of these sets.

It looks recent, so I guess those of us who got ours early are out of luck.

Yes, why? Are you planning to buy more at the end of the year?

I assume by "holidays" he meant the Xmas season (not Labor Day) which is four months away. I REALLY doubt this will be around for another month never mind four.

If you are planning to gift them then there is no reason not to just buy them now.....

To add: I will go out on a limb and say they will be "currently unavailable" three weeks from today

I don't see what the big deal is about this. It's not like these modern COAs mean anything. Maybe I'm missing something.

Sounds like a fair assessment.

Just hoping that these will end up being key coins and I can retire from the proceeds.

I don't know about retiring on these but decent point about the key...

For a modern proof set it will have the low number but before 1954 not even close.
