I just had to buy one set a bit ago. I didn't want to regret it later. The Jim Thorpe Dollar has some significance to me because my daughter grew up in that town in PA and I have the regular proof single in PF69 to go along with it. Maybe I'll get lucky with an unfrosted Kennedy variety?

So I actually decided against the two sets I had originally ordered, but went in to my LCS yesterday and he offered me one set for $60. That is cheaper (due to the shipping) than getting one from the mint AND I got to look at it before hand as well. Everything looked good to me, so I got it. Interesting since it is the only reverse proof cent/nickel. It will be interesting years down the road how these do since 200k may be a lot for a super rare coin but also a lot lower mintage than the millions (and sometimes billions) of coins minted nowadays.

As long as it does not become a yearly offering.

Quote: Just hoping that these will end up being key coins and I can retire from the proceeds. I get it now. You want low mintage. Quote: As long as it does not become a yearly offering. I doubt it. It is billed as a 50th anniversary set.

I just bought a couple NGC 70 ER sets from PNG on ebay for $349.95 BEFORE the 8% ebay Bucks so around $321/set. I didn't think $32-33/coin for a 70 was bad at all

You can't really compare the mintage to the business strikes though, you need to compare it against the other collector products. There may be billions of circulation coins but the attrition rate on those is very high and the overwhelming majority of those are low grade from the day they are minted. The set will still have more high grades by FAR which almost all will survive

Knowing that there might be an outlier in those boxes I would be ripping them apart right now....but...that's just me
Can't see the purpose for an unopened box of a set with 10 coins. Not like you're gonna put up the $300-400 to get each set graded.
Single coins maybe...set of 10...no way...don't get it

Hmmmm....reports are that there are less than 9,000 sets left in stock. Guess that number will be confirmed after the Sunday sales number is released...but....if you were deciding whether to order or not I would suggest making that decision very soon
