I have a feeling that the coin is not really old and might be worth about one or two dollars.

I think what Albert is saying is that it looks counterfeit. Can you take a shot of the edge and what is the weight?

He's implying your coin is/might be a modern fake, which experience tells us is rarely a bad assumption for nicer grade continental Europe thalers that come out of the woodwork these days (TONS of recent Chinese/Eastern European of big older German States/Scandinavian silver types out there). There's also the whole feigning ignorance about coins shtick: "really old coin from 1721... would this be classified as high grade"... and yet you know NGC. Circumstantially, that sets off the cynic's BS alert even more. But anyway... stop doing the distracting photo editing cropping/bordering to the pics - it's distorting a proper view of the coin. Post pics without that (just do a rectangle crop, leaving some border beyond the coin's edge)... and without the overexposed lighting. Albert, these aren't my area at all, but I actually think the surfaces as seen in the last photo don't look all that bad/damming. However, I'm doubtful until proven otherwise. ------------------------- PS - The fact that it is (or wants to be) Swedish shouldn't be surprising, as you've posted Swedish pieces before... Does anyone recall this thread?: http://goccf.com/t/298271Then this one more recently: http://goccf.com/t/327784So we've got father AND grandfather involved... heh. That said, the surfaces really don't look bad on any of those.

So, there was this comment on one of those threads: Quote: I have decided that I'm going to have the coin certified by a professional for examination Was the coin certified? By which company? And that would seem to be the way to go with this coin, too. Please let us know the result!

Parts of this coin and locations of certain devices suggest a cast copy coin to me.

How about the one he found in the attic or the one he found metal detecting. This poster is disingenuous at best. I think the kind souls here have been helping the counterfeiters perfect their techniques by pointing out the defects. I wonder why they are targeting Swedish coins.

I avoided pointing out exactly what flaws I suspected for the reason above. Attics, metal detecting, dads, grandpas, tomb finds- ever get the idea makers and sellers of fakes play us for saps or suckers? Quite a few low volume posters or new member names seem to pretend to be ignorant of some pretty seemingly valuable coins they come up with. Not only Sweden, but British, Germany, Russia, Poland, Austria crowns & talers can be found online looking for copy coins. Some of these end up being seen here along with the stories.
