Noticed this pic by a dealer that confirms PCGS DOES attribute the Apollo half as being from the set...a wee bit late with the announcement and it was NOT announced by PCGS anywhere that I could find..but those sealed boxes that you have still will work

Quote: Are the serial numbers on the Apollo half sets suppose to match? Serial numbers? There are none that I know of on US coin sets. Can you post a picture of what you're talking about?

I'm sorry, I am asking if Apollo 11 graded half sets should have identical serial numbers. I have seen graded Apollo half sets on ebay with the same serial numbers.

The term you're probably looking for here is "certification numbers", and those are unique identifiers for each coin/slab so they will not match. You may be seeing mock-ups on ebay.

Thanks Alpha2814 Do you know if each coin from the Apollo 11 half set sent in for grading can be graded differently? E.g can the Kennedy grade 70 and the Apollo 11 grade 69?

Quote: .Yes. The coins grade is unique to the specific coin itself So a Apollo 11 Half and a Kennedy half that grade 70 could come from two different ungraded Apollo Half sets?

Each coin is in its own slab and they can be separated at any time, or paired with coins from other sets. So, yes.

It looks to me that the Apollo half sets sent in for grading, less than half are grading 70. Is this correct?

Quote: It looks to me that the Apollo half sets sent in for grading, less than half are grading 70. Is this correct? This is where it's going to get complicated. If you want the whole set to be a 70 then the max number is the lowest of the two coins for their 70 population. Now with that said modern 70 populations are over represented percentage wise always with these things. The reason for that is that bulk submissions more and more and actually almost always now give a minimum grade of 70 to get graded. They still have charges and everything else but if it isn't a 70 it gets returned to them raw and doesn't enter the population report. So you end up with a skewed 70 percentage that a lot of people don't realize. If that's what you want go for it and enjoy what you get. It's up to you which one you would want

Quote: Anyone who was considering picking up one of the Apollo coins may want to do so before the 25th. Introductory pricing ends and prices increase $5 across the board. Yup. Got the e-mail. Placed an order for the proof dollar that I did not get on my previous order.

The 5 oz coin arrived Saturday as promised, quite an impressive coin. I think I'm seeing a die crack running about 2/3 the length of the lander's front leg. Have there been other reports of cracks on the saucer coins? Trying to get photos...

Hmmm...should be Fedex Smartpost (USPS delivery) unless you chose expedited shipping which would be an oxymoron with this item
