Quote: I know volume sellers play this game, but I've never really understood why. Isn't the cost to them the same whether or not a coin gets slabbed? Cheaper if it comes back raw. Less work for the TPG so lower charge. Collectors can actually bulk submit as well and as long as a high enough percentage meets the minimum grade the raw coins don't get charged at all. If you do a small submission with minimum grades everything will get charged the same. Quote: Can the raw coin in OGP be sold for more than a slabbed 69? or heaven forbid a 68? Without a doubt for more than a 68 and in some cases more than a 69. It can be easier to sell raw than the 69s as well. If nothing else it saves a few bucks on the submission Quote: Plus, as others have said, not getting the lower graded coins slabbed artificially increases the percentages of coins graded 70. You'd think that making 70s look more plentiful would lower the price of a graded 70 coin. I do believe that has had an impact and kept the prices down on some. The submitters that do the 70 only thing are the big big boys that can already get higher prices for things than you or I could. To them it probably doesn't matter or they know they're making more money this way. It probably won't happen but it has been suggested before for them to add something like a coins submitted box to the pop reports so you would have a better idea of the 70 percentage. Instead of just seeing 3000 70s, 1500 69s you would see 3000 70s, 1500 69s, 10000 coins submitted or something along those lines. Quote: The returned coins are not graded but, THEY do pay for it being Looked at, Correct? Depends on the individual bulk agreement or if you met the minimum percentage requirement for the submission.

I like them both about the same. I thought I could get away with just having the proof half dollar with my uncirculated dollar, but I have a proof dollar on the way now. I usually do not care about the half dollars, but I wanted the Kennedy. Had I not bought that set I would have gotten the proof dollar on day one.

I really enjoy both the proofs and the UNCs. When cash on hand allows, I try to get both.
I have all of the Apollos, except the UNC $5 (well, and the saucer, which I'll be waiting a while for). I thought I might get the $5 UNC but the American Legion coins are coming out soon too and I need to budget for those too, darn it!

I finally got the Unc and Proof dollars. Ordinarily I'd get just the proof but Unc is so much better for the footprint side. The others are in my sights but out of my budget for now. And yes, the American Legion will be competing for my wallet soon.

Totally agree that for the Apollo coins, the proof is best for the helmet side and UNC is best for the footprint side.

The slightest little imperfection just jumps out at you I think the Kennedy half should have been the reverse of what it is. Enhanced Proof is that what it would be called? Kennedy with either the normal finish or the same as the field finish, and the field should be the finish that Kennedy is. As for the Apollo 11 half it would be great if the obverse was Enhanced Reverse Proof and, the reverse the opposite of Enhanced Reverse Proof. Looking at the coin straight on the reverse sky and shadows would be dark but without the mirror finish. Also the footprint on the obverse would look dark without the mirror finish. Not a fan of mirror finishes.

Got my proof dollar today! I was not expecting it until Monday. The tracking went idle last night and I figured FedEx did not get it to the PO in time. I am very glad I got it. Do not get me wrong, I like my proof half dollar, but the helmet looks ten times nicer on the proof dollar.

They are pretty darn good-looking. Quote: And the 5 oz saucer looks 5 times nicer than the proof dollar! For a total of 50x better than the half! wow!
