goldnugget - YES, certainly a possibility. love the little detector dude!

jimbucks - nice specimen there! hard to tell from the photos, but looks to be plenty of luster. I'm sure your MS68 is all original surfaces, do you disagree?

yes, I generally agree. I typically skip it or ask about it here. I did just buy a 1923-S Mercury dime that had some cleaning but it was higher grade, the cleaning didn't look too harsh in the photos, and, maybe most importantly, I got it for a price around five times lower than it would have likely gone for otherwise. I'll likely post some photos in a new thread after I get it this week. As has been discussed elsewhere, some cleaned coins can "recover" and become "market acceptable" over time.

@ OP , sorry but I'm not a fan on anyone of those Dimes so I would not bid on any of them .

It's the grayish tan areas on the 1919-S that say "cleaned" to me. The spots of that appearance on the reverse above DIME are what you get when you dip a circulated coin.

Thanks, I skipped all these. More interested to understand why they look the way they do than to actually bid on them.

The 1919-D and -S had great details, but the flat lackluster surfaces concerned me (or maybe this seller is just horrible at coin photography (or both)).

Here's the final tally, seems to me all 4 went for right around market prices.

Glad it's all over. I'd have liked to have all of them. But to late now.

So I take it no concerns on the coloring or surfaces?
