I am new to the forum, Just found (by chance) this note with pretty cool/fancy mismatched serial numbers. I cannot find an image or posting anywhere of another 2013 one dollar mismatch, so it is really difficult for me to find a ballpark worth or value. I have not had the bill graded and am not sure if I should at this point. Any input would be helpful.

to the CCF. Mismatched serial number notes are definite keepers and can be worth a few hundred dollars. Value does depend upon condition and even the number of mismatched digits (your's has a single mismatched digit). Your note has several folds and I would think it would grade at least xf and maybe au. The cost to get a single note graded is fairly expensive (particularly if you have to join a TPG first). Here's a link that you may find useful.

Thank you for your responses. Can anyone explain why I can't find any other mismatched serial number examples of this year and denomination for sale anywhere? Is it that BPE techniques of error control are so much better now that the number of errors has been reduced, or is it that numbers are the same and the errors are just sliding right through our hands? My feeling is that I will now check the serial numbers of every note that passes through my hands for the remainder of my life and never see another of these.

Welcome to CCF.
Nice find.
The BEP's error game is pretty strong...not perfect, but way better than the hay days of the 60's through the turn of the century were. Collectors are still looking for them, there just isn't as many out there to find. I look at every.single.note. that passes through my hands.

Impressive note. You don't see this on modern notes too often anymore.

This was given to me as change at a Papa John's carryout transaction. I noticed the triple threes and triple sevens in the upper serial number and thought it was cool. Took it out of my wallet when I got home to show my wife and looking at the lower serial number thought I had the wrong bill. It was then that I noticed the error.

Nice find. Probably the best thing Papa Johns has "served up" in years!

Quote: Took it out of my wallet when I got home You put it in your wallet. That added a few more folds to it and decreased the value a little.
