Hi everyone, First, let me say that I enjoy reading this forum and have been for a couple of years. However, until yesterday the only thing I collected were ASE coins. I like looking at all the different posts, but I am not at all versed in coinage at the level that some of you are. Yesterday I went to a garage sale and bought two rubbermaid bins of old golfballs. I hit behind my house all the time, so the opportunity to grab 400+ balls for $10 was amazing. However, underneath the balls in one of the bins was a massive coin collection, shown in the pictures here. I didn't realize until I got home so I immediately went back to the tag sale to let them know they made some kind of mistake. The guy at the house didn't seem to care, so I offered him another $30 bucks and he took it! So, I'm now the proud owner of a ton of coins that I know nothing about. My question is - where do I start? I am completely overwhelmed. This collection could be worth nothing, or there could be some hidden gems inside. I have no idea where to start. Any thoughts on what I should do? Anything specific I should look for right off the bat? No ASEs unfortunately! Thank you!

Talk about a busted butt . Good start to a nice collection . Get yourself a new 2019 Red Book and a world coin book . Then have a nice time going through all those coins and currency . What ever you do ,don't clean any of them but you probably already know that . Congrats and have fun with it . BTW To CCF .

Congratulations on a great find. Fortunately, its pretty well organized already. Peruse it all, then then start with what interests you. Its not going anywhere.

With only 30$ in it I wouldn't be worried at all about being overwhelmed one bit!

Hi everyone, Thanks for the responses! I ordered a new RedBook (my current one is from 2008), and I'll start working through the collection over the coming days and weeks. From what I can gather so far it's about 75% small cents. Most are Lincolns from 1909 - 1959, but there are some newer ones. There are entire rolls of Lincolns from 1910, 12, 16, 19, 20, 24, 29, and then a whole bunch in the 50s. There are another 1,000 or so mixed in bags with Indian heads, and Lincolns. The coins in the cardboard protectors are all labeled 'BU' and range in age from the 20s to 50s. I quickly found some rolls of dimes, a few of which were very old (1840s and 1850s), a ton of quarters, mostly clad, but a roll of 1940s. Some halves, some silver dollars (a bunch from 1921), ONE silver eagle from 1991 that I missed when I first posted, a big bag of Buffalo nickels, some currency, and then a lot of foreign coins. Loruca - I see you're in Canada. There are about 5 rolls of Canadian pennies that are from the 20s and 30s, and then a ton of coins from various countries around the world, mostly from the 30s and 40s. Maybe a wartime collection of some kind. I'll keep everyone updated if anything interesting or exciting pops up!
