Congrats on the nice purchase! I'd love to feel overwhelmed looking through that.

1840 & 1850 dimes sound very promising.

Hold up. The collection had more than $30 face alone, and he took $30 for it?! Granted, this isn't an "early retirement" score, but you could easily double or triple your investment if you just post it to ebay as-is, without even going through it. I'd wager that there isn't much of terrific value, but that national Bank $10 note could be worth what you paid for the whole lot. Are the albums full?

I seem to think that the real owner of that collection is really gonna be teed off once he finds out what happened to it!
And.......
I'd bet 10$ to a donut that the guy selling it did not own it!

Hi again! So I haven't had much time to go through very much - there are just so many Lincoln cents I'm going to have to just take it real slow. I did go through everything that was not a penny. The photos below are for reference, since there are more than one of each. So far, I'm loving the Trade dollar. That could replace my ASE collecting very soon. There's about 20 of these, with this being in the best shape (even with the crossing out of the word Half) A full roll plastic tube of these: (edited for clarity) 20 of these, all 1921, and all in similar condition 5 of these, this is the best one 2 full rolls of these

Quote: I'd like to see the golf balls The Titleist 2005 Pro V1 is a key date. Seriously, there's probably in the thousands of dollars worth of coins in there. Just the silver value alone of what you described is substantial. What a find!

For the currency, you may want to make a list of the date, color seal (blue, red, brown, green, gold), district (if there is one), serial number, and post in the currency section of this forum. Any pre-1928 notes would be best taking pictures of.

2 rolls of Seated dimes? 100 Seated dimes? That is where I would start. The one you showed is pretty high grade - guessing XF45+ from the picture. Check them out here. That one may be worth $100 or more. Whats more important though is that you could probably start a pretty nice Seated dime set from those.

Yeah, I had the same thought on those Seated dimes. I've sold some beaters from the 1840s and 1850s at $5 a piece recently, that I had gotten as a kid. Collectible ones like that ... WOW! Compared to the 1921 Morgans, which won't go for more than $10 over melt. AND ... Now we know the best place to hide your coin collection if you don't want to bother with a safety deposit box: under a couple of hundred golf balls. I bet it was an elderly collector who, in his or her senescence, forgot where the coins were hid.

@TheBiggestCoin, What you showed ... Half Cents, Large Cents, Morgans and Trade $, and especially high grade dimes, probably already puts you in the $3,000 to $5,000 range if they are mostly common dates, unless there are lots of ugly coins behind the nice ones you showed. If there are some scarce dates mixed in, even better. If you have Lincoln in high grade (UNC or near) from the 1920s these will also fetch decent amounts per coin. Moderns (post WWII) plucked from circulation and stuck in Whitman folders not so much, except for certain scarce dates.

The more I see the more I believe the original owner of this stuff (providing he isn't dead) is gonna go nuclear ballistic at whomever said it was "ok" to sell his stuff in a garage sale. My guess it was an idiot son-in-law or an even more idiot grandson.
Crazy, but it is what it is and you should make out like a bandit!

Well that is certainly a nice garage sale grab. I agree this sounds like someone made a mistake in selling something that they shouldn't, but this is in your favor now. So congrats as several have said you are going to make out like a bandit here.
