Selling something to yourself under a different ebay name sure makes your feedback score get better. I would avoid "private listing" auctions like the plague.

There are a lot of honest sellers and buyers on ebay, but there are some that bend the rules or find ways around them, and a very few just plain crooks. Like every human endeavor, those are the ones who spoil it for the rest. I don't know how many times I've thought "If I were running ebay I would do it this way or that way" but the truth is I'm glad I'm not the one who has to try and keep all the ebay users happy. It's got to be a tough job. With all of it's flaws, I'm still thankful for ebay. I've found a lot of good coins for my collection there.

I asked the seller how this has come to be. Looking at other items for sale, in particular the USA errors this person is not new to collecting. Response should be interesting.

After about 2 minutes of investigation. I have learned who the seller is. Apparently numerous ebay I'ds are indeed true. The seller is a member of this site. LOLOL. I had better stop there. Roger will yell at me......

As long as the post is factual, without direct insults written, and written in family-friendly language, I have no issues with the painful truth being posted here...

Quote: Shill bidding shouldn't make any difference to a buyer either, only you control what you are willing to pay. Wow! Really? If I am the only bidder on 99 cent start with a max bid of $50 I win for 99 cents. If you throw a shill in there it will get run up to $50. If I was willing to go that high is not the point. It's an auction, not a buy-it-now, and I find it completely revolting to think it's okay to be bidding against the owner of the item.

I know it may appear disconcerting but I see no evidence of shill bidding only unfounded accusations or assumptions. After all there may be an explanation.
Cheers, Bill

It is no different than walking into a store and seeing it properly priced. If you're worried about a shill which by the way almost all auction houses do as reserves than just bid one increment at a time and hope it works.

Houndog .. this is not the first time that questions have arisen concerning C-V and his "private" no-tax auctions.

For me (and I doubt I'm the only one) I find ebay to be something of a funny place for collectibles. First you have the buyers expecting to get everything for pennies on the dollar (and when the seller refuses, the buyer accuses them of being a "jerk" and a 'dang hoarder" to put it politely)...but then you have sellers who expect to get well over (the already overvalued) trends values for their coins (sometimes by many multiples). Why can't their be any middle ground any more?

The answer I received from the seller was as I expected, "Buyer requested transaction cancelled". As was mentioned already, this is not the first time this persons ebay habits have been discussed. HD Bill, on its face I would agree with you, however as I now know the sellers name.........I am not so inclined to think that this was legitimate.

Quote: Buyer requested transaction cancelled lol what buyer is going to want to cancel a possable $1000 coin for $78? and if it was only a dollar less the seller could have offered it to me as a second chance offer
