Hi, I am not that familiar with the Indian Head cents. Could really use some professional help from you all.

Thanks

I wish I had that kind of luck.

Looks like a 71 to me.

Not 1877, wrong reverse.

Not 1871, which had a curved date logo.

1874 and 1876 are possibilities.

Value in any event - virtually worthless.

Please excuse my lousy drawing, which I did with the touchpad on my laptop in bed, but hopefully this conveys the idea.

The 7 and 4 look close together, but compare it to this:

Thank you all so much for your time and expertise.
Didn't realize the significance of some of these dates until I started looking them up from your replies.

Yes, indeed an 1877 would pretty much have been a miracle.

An 1871 would have been really nice too - except then I would have been disappointed in it's condition.

Numisma - Thanks a bunch for that drawing - better than mine would have been.

I was looking at V.V. which is normally where I look up my LC's for the designs on the Indian Heads but couldn't find anything. Is there a website like VV that has them?

You're the best

The regular issue 1877 reverse was struck with the old Shallow N reverse, which hadn't been used since 1872 and was never used again. Only the Proof issue of this year has the Bold N reverse (like yours), and this is most unlikely to have been a Proof strike.

This is exactly correct. My first impression from the photos is that you have an 1874.
