I happened to notice an odd section near the obverse rim of this coin (roughly 4 to 5 o'clock). Any idea what would cause this? I'm wondering if it is something to do with the planchet, the die, or the strike.

Looks like a concentric die scratch/gouge. Note the affected area? It is on the fields. So any damage to the outside field area of the die got scratched/damaged/gouge, thus all the coins struck with this die will show the same mark. No premium for this. Just die damage, not a doubled die.

Thanks for the explanation Coop. That makes perfect sense. Sometimes I lose sight of the fact that the Die is reverse relief from the coin.
