You found a 70-D. Someone definitely broke that out of cellophane. Must have been a kid wanting some candy money!

Could have been. It makes you wonder if any of the coins in our collections have been stolen, sold, than purchased by us legitimately. It's a sad thought

I have actually thought about that more than once. I try not to feel bad about it, and just hope that the "victim" knows that their coins are in good hands.

it had minor wear (the 70d I found) but if you hadput it in a random pile with a bunch of other 40% halfs it would have just blended right in.

That's all you can do. Can't trace it back to original owner!

Wow! It was pulled from a set, then circulated for more than a few transactions before you found it. Interesting!

Looks better than I imagined! It still shows signs of being passed around, whether by hand or hiding in a bag for a few years. Still, nice grab!

I'm sure most of us have found Proof coins, so why not something out of a mint set? One of the first boxes I searched, I found 42 Proof's dating from '71 thru '79. I have to believe they were stolen. Has anyone here found a Silver Proof yet?

yes, and it was an amazing find! From the same bank, 13 2006-S Silver Proofs, 15 clad proofs dating from 2004 to 2006, and in the eight rolls they had, EVERY coin was dated after 2002! And except for a few very minor hairline scratches, they looked perfect; all gorgeous Cameos! I have a picture of ten of the 2006-s silvers; I will post it when I get home to my computer with the photos on it
