I usually get from 2 to 10 rolls every few weeks at 5 different banks. I haven't found one anything Silver for many years now. I no longer even expect to find anything of value. I do it more for the fun of spending them since so many have never seen them. I know one thing about those. There sure is a lot of 1971 and bicentennial halves around my area. One time I found out of about 5 rolls 30 of the 1971's.

I have to agree with the earlier post on this thread that customer rolls are the way to go. I went to yellowpages.com and listed out all of the banks in a 25 mile radius of where I live and printed them out. In the little space to the right of the listing on the printout I put the date I last checked that particular bank and the results of the check. Always sit and call the banks first; saves you a lot of driving! Ask for the teller area when you call; many non-tellers in the banks will assume that they don't have any halfs and tell you they have none. I try to call each bank at least once a week; that way they get to know you (ALWAYS be pleasant on the phone with them, even if they sound annoyed at your asking and say they have nothing) and I have gotten to the point where a few banks have asked my name and they call me when they get some in. I also have marked off the list banks that I know have tellers that look for silver themselves; this of course saves you time. Since the first of August I have found 311 40% silver halfs and 53 90% halfs (including two rolls of Franklins at a little branch that has nothing but a drive-thru). Good Luck; the stuff is out there!

I agree, you never know what you will find. Timing and luck are everything, but persistence pays off eventually.

Like I said, I must have been extremely lucky! I was opening roll after roll in the productive box and sometimes had 3-4 40% coins per roll! I could not believe it. I wonder why this box was so productive? I won't question it. I guess I will be grateful and enjoy the moment! Good luck everyone! Can't wait to see your finds.

So the premise here is to buy rolls from the bank and 'hunt' for older bullion-based coins, or whatever you need for a set? That's pretty cool. I work close to the Federal Reserve Bank building, I wonder if I can get them to give me some coins... haha

Correct. You will have to get a bank to order them for you.

And that's exactly what I did through the advice of someone here. I'm not completing a JFK set, I just wanted the silver.

Why not?
Oh, like me, you probably already have a complete set?

A lot of us here have probably gone thru enough coins to make 3 or 4 sets. The only one I haven't come across is the '70-D.

jbuck, I never got into these. My friend in Las Vegas collects JFK's. I'll give him first dibs then might offer some to our members here in the sell forum. I think he just needs a few.
