Here is another 3 CN RPD, FS# 3N-1865-302. Amazing to me that the die stayed together this long. I have looked for more of these, but they seem scarce. Jim

Great pictures, no doubt on that RPD.

Thanks Morgans, I got off track on my VAM searches to look at my 3CN groups again This one is easy to spot with the naked eye...I am always looking. The last 2 shots were taken with my new Canon 590IS though the eyepiece of my stereo microscope. I really like this camera. Jim

Thanks to both of you. It is a neat coin.
Zohar, some great coins you have put up also!

The punch of the 1 (w) is pretty dramatic! So I'm guessing the raised features (w) of the 6 and 5 correspond... I don't know 3CN varieties, so I'll just guess it's an 1865/1865(w)?

Hi Kurt,
Yes, all 4 numbers are repunched. The 8 is hardest to see as just a curve on the upper left of the top loop. Also there is repolishing around the ear, giving a spike like line through the ear. The CP guide says it is well known in the proofs, but rare in business strikes.

Dramatic die crack and nice photography! Interesting series to collect. I have some 3CNs that I got from Prethen. Hmmm... will have to pull them out again.

Hi! Most tend to look for the 3CN for a "type" coin and don't really look at them as possible varieties. I would like to find a hoard sometime On ebay, they are always shown so small, it's hard to see and variety. Jim
