Quote: ...and gone to backorder status with an August 6th shipping date That's good that a lot of sold to get it to backorder, but unfortunately that will probably hurt the rest of the sales.

I ordered mine (2) right at noon. Order 06810xxx. I see now they are on backorder. So the mint didn't think they would have robust sales? Does the 110k limit include the sets sold in Canada? They better not be making more than what they said they would!

I think the Tues. PM sales figures on the U.S. mint site should give us an idea of how many sets will be sold from Aug. 6 onwards. I'd say they sold out 40,000 - 50,000 sets today by 5 pm CST. Good sign. But like basebal21 says, it may hurt sales. I believe it all depends on those Tues. sales figures from the mint.
Just an extreme illustrative example, if 80,000 sets were sold, prices might not be hurt too much between now and Aug. However if only 30,000 were sold, then yes, prices will be hurting.
Just my opinion. I purchased 5 sets (06814) and I'll hang on to them for another 4-5 years at least!

Foxwoods Man:
Did you pay for express shipping? I paid for the least expensive, ground shipping. I was wondering why yours was shipped so quickly. My order number was 06814 (11:04 AM CST). If yours was anywhere near that, mine hopefully will be shipped today too!

Received my Purchase order confirmation from APMEX for the Five sets I bought from the US Mint this AM. Really did not want to deal with ebay/paypal/us post office. The three canadian sets that I pre-ordered will be sent to NGC for grading. Hope I get lucky but that is probably 3-4 weeks from now.

Good luck Dave, hope they're PR-70s!
By the way, anybody out there, I'm kind of new to grading services and the need to submit coins to them. What would you say is the average, expected grade of proof coins directly from the Mint? PR-65? PR-69?
What's your opinion?

PR-69. The PR-69's generally sell for the same as the coins in OGP. Submitters make money off the PR-70's they get. If you "need" one for your collection, then you're better off buying as submitting is rather expensive, especially if you can't do so in bulk.

Thanks Bret, maybe I'll look into grading, I've got 5 sets coming, and other coins I'd like graded. Would you say NGC is the most respected grader, or the same as PCGS?

"Good luck Dave, hope they're PR-70s! By the way, anybody out there, I'm kind of new to grading services and the need to submit coins to them. What would you say is the average, expected grade of proof coins directly from the Mint? PR-65? PR-69? What's your opinion?" If you look at the census data that graders like NGC publish, then it appears that "of the coins graded" the majority are "70", BUT I understand that large dealers, that submit many coins for grading, can request that coins that do not meet the 70 grade can be returned ungraded, and sent back to the Mint for resale. Therefore, there really is no accurate way to judge the QC of the Mint to determine what the True % of 69 or 70 coins really are. In the past, I have always purchased graded coins, this will be my first attempt to submit coins direct to NGC. I'm hoping that Both Mints took extra special care in the manufacture and PRIDE in these coins and I get some 70's. I would like to sell two sets and keep one for my collection. The $115 I will make off the 5 sets sold to APMEX will cover most of the cost to grade my three Canadian sets.
