NGC and PCGS both have good reputations. I personally don't collect modern 3rd party graded coins, so I don't really have an opinion either way.

Quote: . What would you say is the average, expected grade of proof coins directly from the Mint? PR-65? PR-69? For ultra modern proof products like this it's almost always 68/69. Older proof products it's much lower. As far as whose better PCGS and NGC are both fine, PCGS is generally preferred on moderns and US coins though. If registry sets mean anything to you or you believe they have a strong influence overall or will in the future (I don't personally at the moment for things like this) the PCGS registries are also a lot more active. Quote: . If you look at the census data that graders like NGC publish, then it appears that "of the coins graded" the majority are "70", BUT I understand that large dealers, that submit many coins for grading, can request that coins that do not meet the 70 grade can be returned ungraded, and sent back to the Mint for resale. Large dealers do it the most but any bulk submitter can have a minimum grade. Actually with PCGS anyone can have a minimum grade for anything, but if you're not a huge submitter or doing a bulk submission you're going to pay the grading fee on every coin either way. Some people feel it's easier to sell things like this raw than as 69s or lower though which is why they do it instead of trying to crack them out or selling a ton of 69s

Therefore, there really is no accurate way to judge the QC of the Mint to determine what the True % of 69 or 70 coins really a Yup...anyone can put a minimum grade on a submission so it does skew the pops significantly. I don't know about the sending back to the Mint part though. That might be a stretch with the one week return time limit..they can always sell the raw sets or even the 69's for at least what they paid or more. MCM for instance always has 69's available...but that's as low as they go. I have sent in MANY proof ASE's and some special issue proofs (Silver and gold Kennedy halves. Liberty medals etc) and found that I get a significant number of 70's with the proofs..higher than the MS versions. Quote:I would like to sell two sets and keep one for my collection. The $115 I will make off the 5 sets sold to APMEX will cover most of the cost to grade my three Canadian sets. Smart...I will be sending my RCM sets in to NGC (unopened) also. I hate not inspecting the coins first but it is what it is

Quote: That's good that a lot of sold to get it to backorder, but unfortunately that will probably hurt the rest of the sales. That was my thought. Ya think they would have learned from the Apollo saucer issue...went to backorder almost immediately after around 60% sold....now off backorder and only 61% sold. Killed it and now it happens again

yeah but I think the difference here is that number will be closer to 80% sold and this set won't lose value immediately on the secondary market

Foxwoods Man and Machine 20:
Whether 60% or 80% are sold up to now, would you think in the LONG run, the backorder will not depress resale prices? In the short run, I can see people may hesitate to buy at high prices, but after the sets are sold out, this one-month delay shouldn't be an issue, right?
Do you think the Tuesday sales figures will do a lot to either open or choke the market, if temporarily?

I've gotten confirmation of my order (06814XXX) but no confirmation of shipment yet, and my purchase was pretty early. Should I be worried, call them up tomorrow?

Just got notice that my Canadian Pride coins shipped today. It would be nice if both the US Mint order and the Canadian order were scheduled to arrive on the same day, since I need to sign for both packages. Now I'm excited!
