I noticed that one dealer is taking pre-orders @ us$ 238, a $99 premium.
Does this seem realistic? I realize that the two coins in the set are unique and low mintage so can un-graded coins demand such a premuim?
Who is planning on trying to get through to the US Mint on July 3?

It is TOTALLY related to having the coins received by NGC by the cut off date. The "Set" label sometimes needs the coins delivered in an unopened box IF the coins are, or will be, available elsewhere either singularly or in another set Since these will be unique (I think) coins most likely they can be sent in by themselves ...and the true value of any coin is the price it sells for. Anyone can ASK a price for a coin but pre-sales are probably not the best way to determine future value |

Yes, PCGS does have different requirements
Also...this set contains a non US coin so it may need a "World coin" submission form for the Canada coin and a US submission form for the US coin. Adds a bit more to the fees for two submissions
Hopefully NGC will work this out somehow before release

I've never understood why the TPG's don't allow "mixed" submissions, particularly since the separate submissions can be sent to them in the same package  |

I think this is awesome as there hasn't been a significantly different ASE for a few years. This set has both a unique ASE and unique packaging. I get to recomplete my ASE set five times this year. |

I would bet the TPGs will allow these to be submitted together. Say you sent in a submission that had 3 seated halfs, 2 1700s Chinese coins, 5 modern world coins, and 4 tokens. Instead of a group of graders grading your whole submission your Seated coins would have to go to one group, then the tokens to another, the moderns to another, and the Chinese to another. Maybe the modern get done with some of the others but you're looking at 2 or more grading groups for one submission where each group is only grading part of the submission. |

I was thinking along those lines as well. You want specialists in their field to be doing the grading. So to sort/direct the items to their respective graders and then re-group them after grading adds complexity and cost to the process.

Aren't different types of US coins graded by different graders who have expertise on a particular type of coin? So, when a submission has several different types of coins on it, don't those coins have to be routed around to the correct graders and then regrouped? |

The tiers themselves do that which is one of the reasons why gold isn't allowed on the economy tier. |

So with regards to the ASE in this set, will this be the first ever with an enhanced reverse proof finish? |

I always thought that the graders were based on their expertise and that when several different types of coins where submitted, let's say on a regular submission, that the coins were split up and routed to different grading groups and then brought back together at the end Edited by BadDog

Regarding NGC:
The economy coin value limit is $300 so that kinda rules out most gold as stated. It's mostly used for older coins since the turnaround time is higher and the cost ($20) is greater than a Modern tier submission ($17) which has a value limit of $2000 and can include gold.
It is an assumption that graders have their specialty areas and mixed submissions are steered to the appropriate graders.
