Quote: the maple leaf seems more 'alive'. I agree, the more I look at the maple leaf side of the coin the more I like it. Has very great detail and the outer edge with the maple leaves and stars appear laser-etched. Don't care for the queen side which is a bummer because I feel like I can only enjoy half the coin.

I submitted my RCM sets directly to PCGS on 8/2 during their public submission event. I decided to pay the extra for "First Strike" designation, only because some people pay more for those, even though it's arguable that all of them are first strike since they sold out right away (the RCM version that is). Now, I just hope PCGS puts the RCM designation on the label, the PCGS rep at the submission table was unsure about it even though I provided the coins in the plastic wrapped packaging, so I guess I will need to call their office next week, otherwise the whole thing will be a complete waste of money.

NGC required that the coins be delivered to their office in a sealed box, directly from the RCM or Canadian dealer, in order to authenticate "Canadian Sets", so I never saw how the coins/ sets were packaged. Hope you get the appropriate designations on your labels.

I assume they did, I just don't know for sure. All the crown countries/territories etc have to abide by them as well. I understand why, kind of a shame though as so many coins from different places have to essentially have the same design on one side when their other sides are often times beautiful

...i should mention, when I opened the case & removed the COA/specs to see the coins, the picture I took depicts the coins as they were, I didn't flip them over. ASE was liberty-side up, maple leaf was maple leaf-side up. that's how they'll stay. if the set would have arrived with queen-side up, I likely would have flipped it over to leave the maple leaf-side up. nothing to do with my feelings about her, it's just that the maple leaf is the more aesthetically pleasing side of the coin, imho. i can see why anyone might liken the coin to the look of a poker chip, tho. LOL, that's funny. however, I'm finished with my critique (for now), I'm happy with the set. I hope there are no more ASE surprises this year...

I hear you jimbucks, I made the mistake of ordering a RCM set from APMEX instead of the RCM or a Canadian dealer so I could get the RCM designation from PCGS. I haven't even opened the box from APMEX, it's still sealed in case I eventually send it in to PCGS. At this point I feel it's not even worth sending the set in at all to be graded.

The Aug04 sales figure is 98,372. There must have been a lot of returns.

If they are returns, I sure wouldn't want to be a buyer now, since they may be repackaged TPG "rejects".

I had my Canadian set unopened in the package. The other day when my coin and currency set arrived I hurried up and got the mail and hid it in my closet before my wife noticed I bought more coins. Then the next night after my boys were asleep I snuck back in and got the box to open and inspect the coins before the return window closes. I grabbed the wrong box and actually opened the Canadian set..whoops! Served me right for trying to hide a purchase from my wife.
