For some reason I seem to love quarters! ... I'm continually upgrading my quarter collection. Occasionally, I will branch-off and start-up a new collection => for example, I started collecting Newfie 20 cents pieces (a very cool and easy set to collect ... I highly recommend collecting them!). However, at some point, I seem to lose focus and the next thing I know I'm back to upgrading my quarter collection! Oh well, I guess it keeps it kind of interesting, right? Recently, I have been semi-collecting 50 cent pieces ... but in the background, I can always hear those darn quarters calling me!

Quote: Love it all. A local coin shop has nickels and quarters for face value, but is 8x face fair to pay for Canadian silver? Canadian silver is 0.6 oz per $ face.

I like all of them up to the point the RCM started making a new reverse quarter design commemorating every possible event they could find to issue a coin over. Personally, I think they were smart for doing so (and the US later copied this with the State Quarter designs) b/c it brought them more money in the long run. I just got tired of trying to get one of each. I know this is fun for a lot of people, but I just do not go for it when the coins are but silver, copper, or something else with at least some intrinsic value. Although I do not like so many commemoratives, I like some of the special issues - a cow on a blue, triangular 50 cent piece - who da thunk it? I vote this as one of the weirdest coins I have ever seen - but I like it for some reason! I also bought the silver 2005/1945 commemorative nickel: except mine does not have the gold overlay and the new 2001/1911 silver dollar: I admit I would like one of the Sasquatch quarters they made, but they looked too cartoon-ish to me and 25.00 for something not silver was a bit steeply priced for me.

glenzy1 => wow, your collection kicks my collection in the ol' grade-category! ... sadly, when I cross-checked your collection with my collection, you had me beat with every one of your coins NOTE => my collection is gorgeous, so I can only imagine how awesome your collection must be to flip-through! (very nice) ... but while you were typing-out that massive list of quarters, I'm pretty sure that you merely neglected to jot-down a few big-ticket coins (?): 1889 1894 1915 1936 Dot ... or are you waiting until you see/win a highly graded example of these coins? (I have all of these coins in F/VF grades, which is below the grades you seem to be aiming at!) anyway => both, your 50 cent piece collection and your quarter collection sound like they should be in the RCM showcase! (well done)

WOW, I'm impressed at how observant you are Stevex6! No I didn't forget to put down those pieces you mentioned, simply because I sold off the examples I used to own. They were in grades EF-40 and lower, so they didn't look right with the rest of my collection. I'm now hunting for high grade examples of those pieces. As a matter of fact, just prior to typing this thread I had just made an offer to Colonial Acres on an I.C.C.S., Canada, 1894, quarter, MS-64 for $2,500.00. I'll let you know if I get it, then you can cross it off your list!.............LOL A friend of mine in Halifax, N.S. (owner of Lighthouse Numismatics> Greg Jones) has a gorgeous 1894 in MS-65 @ $10K, but I would settle for the C.A.'s one for 1/4 of that price. Glenn

I've been focusing on silver dollars.
I'm working on an uncirculated type set for the 1935-1967 series (just a couple to go!) as well as keeping my set of 1971 to date silver commemorative dollars current.
I love "big silver" and enjoy the history presented via the commemoratives.

yah, they're "very" rare => and I have all four of the $4 bills! ... ummmm, but please don't tell my lovely wife that I'm spending all of our cash on these gems! Well actually, she already knows and "kind of thinks my hobby is cute" ... she also has a bunch of expensive hobbies (yah, we're that couple!)
