i recently got a 1971 D kennedy coin, which has faint lettering between the word LIBERTY, and a D on his neck about the mint mark, and two faint rims inside of the edge rim. Tried posting before put the pictures weren't clear enough. hopefully this time they are better.
The rim inside the rim, I believe is damage from a coin wrapper machine, as far as the lettering your seeing, I think your eyes are playing tricks on you...lets see what others say...good luck.... to CCF
Greasy Fingers if you look at the top photo in the circle between the L and the I and is a faint L. and no my eyes are not playing tricks. and also there is a clear A between the I and the B.
The "L" is just a stain or circulation marks on the surface of the coin. It's not really a letter at all. It's just human nature to recognize patters like this. We've all seen thing like this on coins. It's called Pareidolia. Pareidolia is defined as "the perception of apparently significant patterns or recognizable images, especially faces, in random or accidental arrangements of shapes and lines."
