This coin was labeled "Crusader Cross Templar Coin 1200 -1400 Europe Medieval Antique Ancient Copper+" when purchased from ebay. I cant find the same coin anywhere on google and is in much better condition that any coin I see from that era, so I'm pretty sure its a fake. Anyone have any idea of what this coin is and whether I looks genuine. Thanks  *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. *** |

@bvogel, first welcome to CCF. Second, when I rotate, crop, enlarge, and enhance your picture, the image becomes quite pixelated. A larger pic would help us with this significantly.  "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

The large cross design looks similar to medieval coinage from the British Isles. All of that coinage was hammered. If your planchet has a clean circular shape, it can't be real. It could be an intentional fake or it could be something manufactured for a museum shop. With a clearer picture, maybe somebody here could be more specific about the coin it's imitating.

When I type the terms "Crusader Cross Templar Coin 1200" into a ebay sold items search, I find a bunch of fakes from a seller in Poland, but also a lot of real coins from other sellers. With better pictures, the experts here can give a definitive answer. And ...  |

Ok thanks for the much improved pics. It looks to me like you might have a brass jeton or account token rather than a crusader coin.  @bvogel, this means the item could be real though from a slightly later era (1400-1600) Your new photos are consistent with the seller saying it is "copper+" (or brass). If you click on the link provided by @spence, and from the menu on the left you select "Jetons a la Nef," you will see some examples with the same design as in your second photo (a diamond with 4 fleur de lis). The large cross (croix pattee) with pairs of emblems in the angles (crowns, lions, fleur-de-lis, etc) was a common design in the 15th century in France and the Low Countries. If real, it is indeed nicely preserved. Edited by tdziemia
