TFW I'm checking the sources for my 1387 coin and there's a good chance it's actually an 1388 coin which is awkward
(...On second thought probably not? I'll have to check the math, and the geography. We're looking at November 1387 to January 1388, ish, maybe with some spillover into October and February; the sources tend to just give the year so it's hard to do good estimates, but I did find a few places that also mentioned months. If the date is what I think it is, that cuts off the February option at least, but I can't tell for sure from the photos and I no longer have access to the coin itself.)

Well I think that 1388 is going to be achieved one way or another. Your 1387/8 sounds like a 50/50. I have a AH 790 retrograde dated coming which in my mind is 90/95% OK, and I have a 100% AH 790 hopeful in an auction finishing in about 8 hours time. Also tonight I picked up 3 more Juchid coins from Coins.ee Auction including a AH 788. So I think there is still some life left in the 6th edition.

Quote: Your 1387/8 sounds like a 50/50. I'll say in advance - it's an Album 2367.1... On my coin the date is mostly erased by the weak strike, but I thought I could see enough in hand to tell it was 789 and not 790. It's not legible on the photos, though. I'm guessing that Stephen Album must have seen an example dated 790; there's none on Zeno, though, just a ton of variant spellings of 789. The year 790 AH started in mid-January 1388 AD; apparently in February 1388 Timur's army had retreated from Iran to deal with Tokhtamysh's invasion of Samarkand.

It will be interesting to see where the Sixth Edition ends now. I made some more acquisitions and I think with everyone's help we can get to 1373 with @tdziemia's being the last one to post (AFAIK).
I am definitely not going further at this stage, as my Finance Minister has threatened me with summary execution.

A very different Timurid AR miri (2 dinars) from me for 1387 AD (789 AH), minted in another region and under another sultan... Timurid Empire, first occupation of Iran (1387-8) (Timur) in the name of Suyurghatmish AR miri (2 dinars) Furk (Forg) mint, 789 AH (1387 AD) Album 2367.1, Zeno cat. 6020not on Numista AFAICT Unfortunately I don't seem to have the size and weight data any more. I know I've posted it for ID somewhere, but can't find where - perhaps the place had since disappeared. I've discussed this coin a few posts above; at the time I wasn't sure if I could confirm that it was dated 789 and not 790 (Album claims both dates are attested, but I couldn't find any 790 even from other mints - or indeed any Timurid 790 AH coin in Suyurghatmish's name at all, though plenty of Sultan Mahmuds). It turns out that all the Furk mint 789 AH coins on Zeno (six of those as I write this) - and indeed all other examples of this issue that I could find online (surprisingly many given than Furk isn't one of Album's "least rare" mints; maybe someone found a hoard?) - appear to be obverse die matches (sharing the characteristic protrusions at 12h, 3h, and 7h on the inner circle); and my coin falls right into this group. With that in mind, and comparing my coin to the Zeno (and other) examples, I think I have an idea of what I must have been looking at when I claimed that the 8 is visible in hand... ...so yeah, 789. Technically it still makes the timing a little shaky; the year 789 AH ended in mid-January 1388 AD (and the Timurid occupation of this far-southern area would have started very late into 1387), and for that matter, if Furk just had the one obverse die anyway, plausibly they would have still used it into the next year. I think I could still honestly call it a qualifying 1387 coin, though.

A great coin @ j1m. Well researched to get to the date. Those three lumps on the inner circle make the mint attribution certain IMO. Onwards! My contribution for 1387 is this Juchid Mongols AH789 AR Dirham from Toqtamysh Khan, ruler of the Golden Horde 1379 - 1396. He was a descendant of Chinggis Khan (Gengis) Fortuitously, this coin arrived from Canada this morning, but I haven't had time to unpack, catalogue, photograph properly etc, so I have used the sellers photos above, but here it is in its 2 x 2.
