At least they've marked the error on the slab--did that knock it down from a "PF70" to "PF69"? All said, I'm not sure that little crack matters much on a bullion coin--or even on a classic series.  Edited by KurtS

I think they missed the diagnosis on this injury. I think it is struck through thread. What say you fellas?

You could be right...I just know little about struck through coins. Whatever caused this, it's pretty darn minor, LOL.  |

Hello, I saw this subject and after looking at it for a while, I also do not know about struck through coins, but I would say it appears that it could be a die crack, being the line appears to go through to the rim.This is a beautiful coin, just thought I would add my 2-cents. I would like to know just how this happened, $700.00, like P.T BARNUM SAID!BE WELL, MORGANS DAD...

WARNUNG! Those of you who have the DANSCO album, (Silver Eagles), #7181, be advised, the coins are toning brown, especially on the inner pages!@ I just noticed, when lookimng for any cracks, or "struck-thru coins. I have several with die cracks on the right foot, and shoe, different dates.
Now for the coin oa thand, is the "line incuse, or raised? Incuse would indicate a struck-thru, while a raised line would indicate a crack.

BEAUTIFUL! That's even bigger than mine> Yes, and you can see the crack is raised above the surrounding surface, which means it is NOT a srtuck-thru. I love those cracks. I have some that are so scattered, and severe, that I wonder if it was the last strikle before the die shattered! Thanks for sharing. BTWmThe toning I mentioned has shown up with less than two years storage, and is a brown color, same as the DANSCO folder. I removed ALL ASE's, and put them in mylar flips, amd they are in a20-flip plastic pocket holder. Dick |
