Someone should do a write-up on this saga using the information and interactions from this thread.

Wow! Congratulations! Too bad it took this long. I admit-I was in the "Nay" camp. Shut me up...

I remember you were a nay vote oldgrouchyguy. I was a mugwump and kept my own council. Based on owning a few grading service body bags, my biggest fear was too little evidence to authenticate.

Wow-ee, the day has come. It seems there are 2 big takeaways -
1 - it is only one of two known examples, and the other has a hole and is at the Massachusetts Historical Society 2 - this new one was graded 45 and valued at $1.5M by PCGS. I wonder how they arrive at that number.
And it first surfaced right here in this thread. Astounding.

thq: in my defense, I remember when the company that I worked for had a Birch Cent, graded by the newly-formed PCGS grading group, VF25(?). There was one very well-respected Colonial dealer who said it was NG and he didn't care what anyone thought about it. A little harsh, but, you like to have "all your ducks in a row" for something like this, out of the woodwork and all, and I guess Stack's did that. My hat's off to both the OP and Stack's, and I'll have a little Humble Pie in the meanwhile.

Be nice if this coin was eventually purchased and donated to the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian. Maybe one of the jillionaires in this Country will step up to the plate if it becomes available.

Well this is exciting if it's indeed the same OP coin. Sure looks like it.

Quote: Jadey: this picture is on the PCGS website I'm guessing they're asking about the pic of the slab (which seems to have been held in someone's hand).
