Top of the Dsy!
So I recently purchased a 2008 silver eagle that was in a slab from NCG and marked as Gem Uncirculated. After looking at the reverse side, the design has all of the known signs of the 2007 design (the "bowl-shaped" U in United, the separation of the stars, & the dash design all match 2007) but does not carry the W mint mark. Everything I've seen online shows the W mint mark. Is this possible? I did check the NCG registry and the coin checks out as genuine. Could this have happened at another mint? Anyone seen anything like this?
Thank You for the Help!

to the CCF! Can you share photos of your coin? Would you mind letting us know the certification number?

I'm not well versed in silver Eagles but I believe what you have is a regular strike (bullion) 2008 silver eagle and the 2008 with reverse of 2007 is a burnished silver eagle with a W mintmark.

Interesting! Any experts know of a Philadelphia struck 2008 ASE with a 2007 reverse? I can only find info on the West Point coins.

Your coin COULD be a great new find! To the best of my knowledge, NOT ONE 2008 ASE reverse of 2007 has ever been found on a *NON-WEST POINT *W* MINT MARK Business Strike 2008 ASE. FYI : *ALL 2008 American Silver Eagles were struck only at the WEST POINT MINT* https://www.silverrecyclers.com/coi...r-eagle.aspxCould you please post a pic of your coin with the Reverse reflected in a mirror, like you would take a picture of a rotated die coin? I would like to see a picture of both the Obverse and Reverse of your coin as one picture, not a separate Obverse and Reverse. Thanks!

It's probably a new discovery.

I recently purchased a raw 2008 (bullion) ASE. The reverse is a 2007 type. I have been unable to find any information on this variety. Only info I can find is of the 2008-W Rev 2007. So, there are some out there, question is how many are there?

The real problem here is that everyone got hung up on the burnished coins and no one asked the right question. Were the 2008 bullion coins struck with the rev of 2007, or the rev of 2008? OK checked out a half dozen or so on ebay and all of them had the rev of 2008. So a 2008 bullion coin with the rev of 2007, as the two in this thread seem to be, would be a new discovery. And every listing for a 2008 rev of 2007 is for a W burnished coin.

This is very intriguing to me. I'm going to try to pick one of these and it seems like no one has sent in a discovery piece.
