Incuse and raised devices: The difference? Incuse devices act just opposite as raised devices. On incuse devices, Machine Doubling on the devices are enlarged. On the raised devices Machine Doubling reduces the size of the devices. So the area you are looking at on your coin are showing incuse devices with Machine Doubling. (enlarging the devices) This happens about 70% of the time on these quarters. Most are minor MD, but some are stronger, but still Machine Doubling. I've yet to see a DDR on these devices. Why? Because the DDR's on these single squeeze dies is on the center of the design. So we probably won't see one on the outer ring devices. The only way this could happen would be if the hub process was stopped and restarted. But even then, these devices would be reduced in size instead of enlarged)
